TYLER CLAIMS BOAT RECORD WITH FIRST COD!
Things went quiet again for a while until just before home time when, out of the blue, 14 year old Tyler Halletts rod arched over with a stormer of a bite. I knew instantly it was a decent Cod, and guided Tyler as he expertly played the fish to the surface. Its not often a Cod strips line off the drag in relatively shallow water, and there were suggestions of conger amongst the crew as the fight played on but I knew it was a Cod and kept quiet as Tyler continued to play the fish with natural skill and ability.
Eventually the fish surfaced and I admit I was quietly gobsmacked as I netted this obviously monster Cod. Once aboard the scales were dancing about the mid 30lb bracket, so we arranged for Dave Grinham from the Tackle Box to meet us back on the pontoon for a verified weighing . this Cod went 34lb exactly! Wow, way to go Tyler, your first EVER Cod, using a hire rod too, and easily a new boat record for Cod on Grey Viking wow what a day!
A WARM WELCOME FROM THE NEW TEAM AT THE S.A.N.
As the new editor I would like to extend a warm welcome to our readers, advertisers and contributors both old and new.
Firstly I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, my name is Adam James, and to give an insight to my background pre S.A.N. I spent 26 years in the print and design industry, I'm a fully qualified charter skipper and an RYA instructor but above all a keen sea angler with the odd dabble into the dark art of the freshwater fly.
The new proprietor is Dave Roberts who has been a regular feature writer for this and other sea angling publications for many years. Dave runs the highly successful charter boat 'AlyKat" from Minehead Harbour and his enthusiasm for the sport is infectious. Both Dave and myself have some exciting plans for the S.A.N, which will include a new design, extended coverage throughout the UK along with more articles and features. Over the coming months the website will get an overhaul and there is already a S.A.N. facebook page up and running so please feel free to post your fish pics, catch reports, comments and suggestions on what you the reader would like to see (keep it clean please!) in the future.
This would also be an opportune moment to extend our gratitude to both Norm and Harvey for their help, support and encouragement to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted transition. As you have probably gathered from the December issue Norm will still be doing 'Norms corner' and writing tackle reviews along with the occasional article and feature. Please note that the new S.A.N email address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
To conclude Dave and myself are very excited about the future of the S.A.N and are looking forward to working with the existing and new contributors and advertisers in order to continue to deliver a great service to the sea angling fraternity.
